Kidney stones

Kidney stones, also known as nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis, are hard deposits made of minerals and salts that develop inside the kidneys. 

Diet, overweight, some diseases and certain supplements and drugs may trigger their formation.

In addition, kidneys stones can affect any part of the urinary tract, from kidneys to the bladder.

In general, these stones are made from concentrated urine, allowing minerals to be crystallize and unite.

These crystals can turn in to stones over weeks or months

The dimensions of the stones can be millimeter up to several centimeters and usually show a brown or yellow color with contours more or less regular.

It’s a common disease and the incidence increases after age of 20 year and is maximum between 40 and 60, more common in men.

Kidney stones do not usually cause symptoms until they begin to move through the kidney or pass into the ureters. If they get logged in the ureters, they can block the urine flow and cause the kidney to swell and the ureter to spam which can be very painful.
