Prostate Cancer
The prostate is a gland that only man have. This gland is the one that produces the seminal fluid that nourishes and transports sperm.
Prostate cancer arises when prostate´s cells begging to grow out of control. This type of cancer is one of the most common types.
Many prostate cancers develop slowly and remain confined to the prostate gland, where they may not cause a serious harm.
But while some types of prostate cancer are slow growing and may need a minimal treatment other types are aggressive and they can spread very quickly.
Prostate cancer is more common in older men although is not a rule but if is detected early when it is still limited to the gland , you have a better chance of successful treatment.
To diagnose prostate cancer, test are made and once you have a positive diagnosis of cancer, test will be done to see if the cancer cells have spread within the prostate or to other parts of the body.
This process is called staging and the information obtained from screeming process staging will determinate the stage of the disease which is important to know the plan treatment.
Often the results of test used to diagnose prostate cancer are also used to stage the disease.
Symptoms
Prostate cancer and other conditions sometimes cause these and other signs and symptoms.
Check with your doctor if you have any of the following:
- Trouble urinating
- Weak or interrupted flow of urine
- Blood in the urine
- Blood in semen
- Pain in bones
- Weight loss without trying
- Erectile dysfunction
- Sudden urge to urinate
- Difficulty emptying the bladder completely
- Pain or burning when urinating
- Back, hip or pelvic pain that doesn´t go away
- Shortness of breathing, tired, fast heartbeat, dizziness or pale skin from anemia
